Everyone knows gummy worms and gummy bears have a lot of sugar and carbohydrates in them, but did you know that translates into stored energy? Release that energy and you get a big reaction and a little fire too.

My science demo guinea pig and anchor at 9News in Denver, Mark Koebrich, loves when I bring science demonstrations that involve fire. (He has a thing about being set on fire, I don’t understand it.) He loved this demo and compared it to a jet engine. It’s not quite jet propulsion, but it’s cool nonetheless. Keep in mind it’s an experiment for your high school chemistry teacher and not a good one to do at home.
